چکیده

Although it is widely believed that information literacy (IL) skills are useful in helping students perform better, academically or otherwise, limited empirical evidence is available showing the relationship between IL skills and IL education. A quasi-experimental pretestposttest control group study was carried out to investigate the impact of IL teaching approaches, which are grounded in pedagogy, on students’ level and applicability of IL skills. The study was carried out with a cluster of 13to 15-year-old students from four schools in Singapore. The 476 students who participated in the study were given a preintervention test in the beginning. Out of this, 279 students (from two schools) were put through the mediated learning intervention programme (with experimental and control sub-clusters), while the remaining 197 students (from the remaining two schools) were put through the multiple intelligence intervention programme (with experimental and control sub-clusters). A post-intervention test was administered to all students at the end of the intervention programmes. From the results of the preand post-intervention tests, it was found that the application of mediated learning (or close coaching) helps students perform better in the learning and application of IL skills, whilst the application of multiple intelligences in helping students learn, facilitated better student learning. Multiple Intelligences, Dialogic-Based Portfolio Assessment, and the Enhancement of Higher Order Thinking

Abstract Controversy has not been yet resolved among L2 researchers as how to enhance higher-order thinking skills (HOTSs) in EFL contexts. Responding to the growing need to foster thinking skills, many L2 educators have recently attempted to investigate the effect of diverse teaching strategies on HOTS. Yet, few studies have focused on the infusion of Gardner’s (1999) theory of multiple intell...

The Relationship between Iranian EFL Learners’ Multiple Intelligences and their Writing Performance across Different Genders

After Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences Theory (MIT), some language teaching practitioners set out to teach students in a way to help their dominant intelligence(s) blossom. In an EFL context, usually teachers’ main focus is to develop communication skills. Nowadays, writing is one of the main ways by which people communicate. Thus, this study aimed at investigating possible relationship between...

The Impact of Multiple Intelligence-Oriented Writing Tasks on the Accuracy, Fluency, and Organization of ELT Students’ Writing

Correlational studies supporting the link between learners’ multiple intelligences and their learning are superseded by interventionist attempts to explore direct applications of Multiple Intelligence (MI) Theory in language teaching and learning. This quasi-experimental study examined the extent to which engaging ELT major university students in writing tasks, compatible to their dominant inte...
